"The Canterville Ghost" is one of Oscar Wilde's best-loved stories. The amusing confrontation between the British and American ways of upper-class life in the past is interwoven with the tale of how the pure love of Virginia, a young American girl, helps Sir Simon, The Canterville Ghost, to find peace at last.
This little play in simple English is intended to provide a lively alternative to the narrative version of the story. Several characters have been added to give as many pupils as possible a chance to read a part or indeed play a role in a school performance.

The volume also includes James' s great novella The Turn of the Screw, perhaps the most ambiguous and disturbing ghost story ever written. With an Introduction and Notes by Martin Scofield, University of Kent at Canterbury Henry James was arguably the greatest practitioner of what has been called the psychological ghost story. The stories range widely in tone and type. They include ' The Jolly Corner' , a compelling story of psychological doubling; ' Owen Wingrave' , which is also a subtle parable of military tradition; '

Or has she other plans for her latest resident? Jack' s encounter with ghosts leads him to the terrifying Nightmare Passage - a kind of purgatory to which spirits are violently, viciously condemned. His survival depends on his own powers, his understanding of the Ghost Mother' s guilt, his contact with her dead daughter, and the resolution of his own grief. ' Breathe' is a compelling stand-alone novel, not for the faint-hearted but immensely rewarding for its psychological depth and the literally breathless action sequences, the hallmarks of Cliff' s writing. Jack has always had an affinity with the supernatural, people who lived long ago and whose spirits remain in this world. She has intercepted their passage from the living world to the afterlife and draws her strength by leeching their souls. Is it her intention that Jack meets the same fate? Following his father' s death, he and his mother move to an isolated house.
