Living overseas but writing, always, about his native city, Joyce made Dublin unforgettable. The stories in Dubliners show us truants, seducers, gossips, rally-drivers, generous hostesses, corrupt politicians, failing priests, amateur theologians, struggling musicians, moony adolescents, victims of domestic brutishness, sentimental aunts and poets, patriots earnest or cynical, and people striving to get by. In every sense an international figure, Joyce was faithful to his own country by seeing it unflinchingly and challenging every precedent and piety in Irish literature.

They centre on Joyce' s idea of an epiphany: a moment where a character has a special moment of self-understanding or illumination. Many of the characters in Dubliners later appear in minor roles in Joyce' s novel Ulysses. The initial stories in the collection are narrated by children as protagonists, and as the stories continue, they deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people.

Edward Rutherfurd' s great Irish epic reveals the story of the people of Ireland through the focal point of the island' s capital city. The epic begins in pre-Christian Ireland during the reign of the fierce and powerful High Kings at Tara, with the tale of two lovers, the princely Conall and the ravishing Deirdre, whose travails echo the ancient Celtic legend of Cuchulainn.

|Dublin and Monaghan bombings Книга по Требованию Frederic P. M. |
There were no warnings issued before three car bombs exploded during Dublin' s rush-hour when the streets were crowded with shoppers and workers returning home. Ninety minutes later, a fourth car bomb exploded in Monaghan. The Loyalist paramilitary group, the Ulster Volunteer Force, claimed responsibility for the bombings in 1993. These allegations are contested by both the British Government and those accused. The majority of the victims were young women, although the ages of the dead ranged from five months to 80 years. The Dublin and Monaghan bombings on 17 May 1974 were a series of car bombings in Dublin and Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland. It was the worst paramilitary attack in terms of fatalities in twentieth-century Ireland. There are allegations, however, that British Intelligence colluded in the bombings. The attacks left 33 persons dead and almost 300 injured: the largest number of casualties in any single day in the Troubles.
