Finally, heteronormative girlhood is a reflection of the pervasiveness of heteronormativity in Korean society at large. Although the three constructions are relevant to different aspects of life for a young Korean girl, they are not mutually exclusive or competitive. Oppositional girlhood manifests itself in girls’ everyday endeavors to maintain the legitimacy of the gender binary. They are appearance-based girlish girlhood, oppositional girlhood, and heteronormative girlhood. The emerging girlhoods in Ms. Jung’s class were discursively constructed in relation to the three imperative ideas about being a girl that pervaded the girls’ everyday classroom experience. First, appearance-based girlish girlhood is constituted by and constitutes girls’ bodies and bodily practices by correctly signifying their gender. By observing gender as social construction, I uncovered three constructions of girlhood in one Korean kindergarten class.

In an attempt to produce a multimethodical and multitheoretical view, it combines the most relevant theories of CDA (Van Dijk? ' s socio-cognitive approach, Wodak and Reisigl? ' s argumentation theory, and Grice? ' s theory of the Cooperative Principle) to critically analyze the most prominent ideological structures underlying a negative attitude towards immigrants or immigration and the discourse strategies used to promote them. The work is meant for anyone with an interest in political discourse and immigration as well as for an academic audience. Immigration has become in the recent years a major concern for politicians in Spain; very conservative political parties, as the one studied in this paper, have projected a negative image of it. One of the general aims of Critical Discourse Analysis is to critically analyze the use of language of those who employ their socio-political position in order to impose their own ideologies and opinions to a general audience. This paper looks at the political discourse produced by Fernando Cantalapiedra, National Head of a very conservative Spanish political party, called La Falange.

This book goes in depth into how one school district in San Antonio, TX is experimenting with such a setting and are having great success. Dr. Diop' s study suggests that although there is much work to be done in educating America' s youth, to offer alternatives in the way of educating our children can only yield positive results. Today' s public schools are in peril. An option which has gained momentum over the years is that of a single-gender setting. Not hailed as a panacea, however many studies are suggesting that the single-gender setting can have a positive effect on school variables. Many schools and school districts are beginning to offer alternative means of educating students. High drop-out rates among our youth, teen pregnancy at an all-time high and parental apathy pervade mainstream American schools.
