|A Separate Reality: Further Conversations with Don Juan Simon & Schuster Carlos C. |
Don Juan In 1961 a young anthropologist subjected himself to an extraordinary apprenticeship to bring back a fascinating glimpse of a Yaqui Indian' s world of non-ordinary reality and the difficult and dangerous road a man must travel to become a man of knowledge. Yet on the bring of that world, challenging to all that we believe, he drew back. Then in 1968, Carlos Castaneda returned to Mexico, to don Juan and his hallucinogenic drugs, and to a world of experience no man from our Western civilization had ever entered before. A man of knowledge is free. . . he has no honor, no dignity, no family, no home, no country, but only life to be lived.
|Thirteen and a Half Fables and Fable Fourteen by Juan Benet. An Original English Translation Книга по Требованию Jason T. |
At the end of each fable, the reader is often baffled as to what exactly occurred, what the purpose of the story was, or what exactly was meant by the final line. Benet' s fables are, however, still fables in every sense of the word. Each of the fourteen stories teaches the reader a lesson through the lives of the characters, as conveyed by a narrator. The fables are relatively short in length, yet deep in content. The reader is never explicitly told the moral of the story; rather, he is left to ponder the errors, situations, and observations of the characters and comprehend ideas that transcend what is presented in the text. Trece Fabulas y Media y Fabula Decimocuarta (Thirteen and a Half Fables and Fable Fourteen), published in 1981, is an excellent example of Juan Benet' s unique style. This compilation of fourteen short fables is a work that both confuses and inspires the reader.
